Videos to learn from and remember.

Join me on this work-in-progress page as I move away from providing video services to clients. This website is a collection of everything I have going on currently. Enjoy the messy ride.

Video Crush

What’s to love?

Visual

Remember how excited you got when the teacher turned on a video in class? Who doesn’t love getting exported to new places and worlds? A picture can paint a thousand words and that’s why video packs a punch. I’m a YouTube fan from way back.

Memorable

You will remember more of what you watch than what you read. Your brain processes visuals faster than text. I could give you the fancy stats but you probably won’t remember. Carefully chosen shots, music and stories help video to hit the feels and linger in your memory.

Quick

Video gets to the point, quickly.

Online learning specialists, SIMTICS, felt that they’d found a gem in Kylie May. As our Video Production Lead, we were all impressed with her incredible attention to detail and her commitment to getting work done by our deadlines. She was even able to adapt to working remotely with a videography team based in the USA, as well as with our local NZ team.

Gary Collins, Project Manager, SIMTICS

Kylie is a true professional and great at what she does. She made the process incredibly easy to create a short film for Groundswell Festival of Innovation. I was really impressed with her creative writing skills, editing ability and client management. I would 100% recommend if you are looking for videos for your business or promotion.

Stacey Jones, Marketing Strategist, PRIORITY ONE

We engaged Story Orchard to create a video to bring our company values to life in a format that would inspire our team members. Kylie managed the entire process, from concepting, filming and editing to final production, in a friendly and efficient manner. I would not hesitate to recommend Story Orchard.

What I enjoy the most

  • Being creative.

  • Interviewing people on camera especially when they say something heartfelt or inspiring that wasn’t expected.

I’m a mum of two, with one on the way. I’m the Digital Communications Advisor at Sport Bay of Plenty. I have over 10 years of experience producing content and videos. For a quick summary, check out my LinkedIn page. Otherwise, put your feet up and read on.

My last stop, before moving home and starting Story Orchard, was Brisbane. There I worked for the education provider Careers Australia writing scenarios and creating videos for training purposes. The videos I produced included case studies, demonstrations and course introductions, all of which assisted students with their learning. I also filled my time riding the ferry, exploring the gold and sunshine coasts, and checking the weather radar for tropical storms. It’s amazing how much you can fear hail when your car is parked outside.

Prior to that, I lived in London for four years. I worked for production companies creating videos and television content, on accounts including Google and Jaguar. In one role, I worked on an adventure travel show about South Africa. This was useful, as London was where I met my husband, Russell, who hails from Durban. I also wore coats often, ate cheese sandwiches from Pret and travelled underground on week days.

Before London, I helped sell the 100% Pure brand for Tourism New Zealand. I worked in the International Media Team gathering, creating and pitching tourism stories to media overseas. I organised press trips, including one that involved Jack Osbourne slacklining and heli-bungy jumping high above Queenstown. I was based in Auckland before transferring to the Los Angeles office. In the California sunshine I rode my bike, learnt to surf, celebrated holidays like Thanksgiving, and ate my fair share of burritos.

When I was much younger, I lived on an orchard and went to school in Tauranga. I have a number of qualifications including a Bachelor of Communication Studies (Advertising and Public Relations), Diploma in Digital Film and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
